Surgical treatment in dentistry and oral surgery

Oral surgery is a specialized area of dentistry dedicated to diagnosing and treating defects, injuries, and diseases of the mouth, jaw, and facial regions. It encompasses far more than simple removals; it involves complex surgical procedures that are essential for restoring the ability to chew, preparing the mouth for prosthetic work (like implants), and correcting congenital or trauma-related anomalies of the jawbone.

At Dynasty Stomatology, we ensure a comprehensive treatment plan for every patient. This ranges from eliminating deep infections via oral cyst removal to using a specialized bone graft or sinus lift to reverse bone loss and establish a strong foundation for a permanent artificial tooth root. Every procedure is performed with minimal invasiveness under controlled anesthesia, prioritizing a fast and smooth healing process.

Surgical Treatment in Dentistry: Indications

A surgical procedure is often indicated for the following conditions:

  • The need for tooth extraction due to severe tooth destruction, chronic infection (dental abscess surgery), or a troublesome, partially erupted wisdom tooth.
  • Advanced gum pathologies and severe forms of periodontal disease often require periodontal surgery or flap surgery.
  • Dental implant surgery, which may require prerequisite bone augmentation or ridge preservation to ensure successful implant placement.
  • Elimination of dental cysts and granulomas to remove infectious foci and protect surrounding bone tissue.
  • Correction of bite and jaw anomalies, and deformations resulting from congenital defects, tumors, or severe dental trauma treatment.
  • Treatment of soft tissue diseases of the oral cavity.
  • Preparation for prosthetics and subsequent tooth replacement option.

Step 2 — Treatment Plan

We develop a precise, step-by-step treatment plan, detailing the type of oral surgery required, the chosen method of anesthesia (local anesthesia is often used), and necessary preparation for the final prosthetic stage.
Step 03

Step 3 — Treatment

The surgery is performed using state-of-the-art equipment. Our focus is on precision and minimizing trauma, whether it is one tooth extraction or a complex sinus lift.

First, endodontic treatment was carried out to preserve the vitality of the tooth, followed by the fabrication and placement of a post-core restoration to ensure reliable restoration of the internal structure. The final step was the installation of a zirconia crown, which not only restored functionality but also provided the tooth with a natural, aesthetic appearance.

The Dynasty Stomatology team at Romanowicza 4B were incredibly welcoming from the moment I arrived. The receptionist was a clear and helpful communicator whose English was excellent, and my professional hygiene appointment with Anastasiia was the best I’ve had. She gave clear explanations throughout, anticipated my questions both before and after the procedure, and her genuine care for her patients’ dental health was evident in the guidance she provided. She also managed to make a 1.5-hour appointment completely free of discomfort. Today’s experience (the first of several appointments I’ve scheduled with Dynasty) gives me confidence in the decision to travel here for dental care. Edit from follow-on appointments: No substantive change from my initial review, beyond even more positive thoughts. I should similarly point out how fantastic Michael (apologies for anglicized spelling) was, not only for his expertise in radiography, but his friendly willingness to help communicate with other dental professionals at the clinic (Dynasty serve many nationalities and have many polyglots on staff, but not everyone can speak everything!) when he wasn't busy operating their CT. Most importantly of all, Dr. Rafal Kazanecki – he was not only fantastic in the clinic, but has been wonderful and very dedicated despite my not residing in Krakow, helping direct me in dental affairs remotely during a few-month window I've been unable to travel. Now a few months in, I feel that my initial confidence and positive view of the practice was well-placed, and look forward to being able to continue with Dr. Kazanecki at Dynasty.

A very pleasant dental clinic. There are many doctors, including narrow specialists such as surgeons, and they have their own CT scanner. The clinic was founded by Ukrainians, so in addition to Polish, Ukrainian and Russian are also spoken, which makes it more comfortable for people of Ukrainian origin. Another plus is its convenient location close to the city center.

What to Expect After Wisdom Tooth Extraction: Recovery Tips

Wisdom tooth extraction is a common dental procedure, often necessary to prevent or resolve issues such as overcrowding, infection, or impaction. • FAQ: oral surgery procedures and dental
    treatment at Dynasty Stomatology

    • What types of anesthesia are used during implant surgery?

For most dental implant surgery and standard oral surgery (like tooth extraction), local anesthesia is used to eliminate pain during the procedure. For longer or more complex surgical procedures, such as full mouth restorations or major maxillofacial surgery, we can offer sedation or general anesthesia for maximum patient comfort and safety.

    • How long does recovery usually take after oral surgery?

The healing process varies greatly. Soft tissues and gum tissue typically heal within 7–14 days. However, full osseointegration of a titanium implant within the jawbone or bone tissue can take 3 to 6 months. We will provide specific post-surgical care timelines during your consultation.

    • What should I eat and avoid after a dental surgical procedure?

After oral surgery, stick to soft foods. You must avoid anything hot, spicy, or crunchy that could irritate the gum tissue. Gentle rinsing and maintaining perfect oral hygiene will boost the healing process and keep complications away.

    • Are oral surgeries safe for elderly patients?

Yes, oral surgeries are safe for an elderly candidate for dental treatment, provided we perform a thorough assessment of their general health. Our oral and maxillofacial surgeon always adapts the treatment plan and anesthesia method to ensure maximum safety for all patients.

    • How can I reduce swelling and discomfort after surgery?

Applying cold compresses to the cheek right after the surgical procedure and taking prescribed medications as directed is key. Strict adherence to our post-surgical care instructions, which include consuming soft foods and maintaining gentle oral hygiene, will dramatically speed up the healing process and minimize discomfort.

    • What are the risks if oral surgery is delayed or avoided?

Delaying a necessary surgical procedure can lead to serious complications, including accelerated bone loss and the spread of infection from a problematic tooth root or cyst. This makes subsequent tooth replacement options (like implants) much more difficult or impossible due to insufficient jawbone.

    • How does oral surgery integrate with prosthetic or orthodontic treatment?

Successful oral surgery creates the essential, strong foundation for long-term dental restoration. After the healing process, the treated area smoothly becomes a part of the procedure in your tailored treatment plan, ready for prosthetic or orthodontic care. This team coordination ensures stable osseointegration and correct bite alignment.

    • What post-surgical care techniques help accelerate recovery?

Good post-surgical care means strict oral hygiene, eating soft foods, and not missing follow-up visits. Our oral surgeons monitor bone tissue regeneration and implant stability closely, guaranteeing the best possible healing process and lasting results.
